Kinky Tarot Circle: The Hanged Man & The Art of Surrender
Sub in the City is excited to bring you this monthly Kinky Tarot Circle for all those witchy kinksters out there!
This monthly circle will be hosted by Sarah from Sub in the City and Molly from Bone & Mirror Tarot to bring together the two worlds of Tarot and Conscious Kink.
We’ll be looking at specific cards in the Tarot through the lens of conscious kink, the shadow self and our erotic desires, to create a sacred space to explore ourselves and our desires in a safe container.
Spots are limited to keep the circle intimate. All genders and experience levels welcome.
The Hanged Man and The Art of Surrender
For our first circle, we meet The Hanged Man. Suspended upside down, caught between earth and sky, The Hanged Man occupies one of the strangest positions in the tarot. He is bound, but he does not appear to struggle. He is motionless, but his stillness is not necessarily stagnation. With the world inverted around him, he asks what might become visible when our usual ways of seeing, doing and controlling are interrupted.
The Hanged Man invites us into the uncomfortable territory of surrender. What happens when we loosen our grip? When we cannot, or choose not to, push forwards? What is the difference between surrender and defeat, between passivity and the conscious decision to yield? Can giving up control itself become an act of agency?
Through the lens of kink, these questions become particularly charged. Surrender can be chosen, negotiated, embodied and deeply intentional. The Hanged Man offers us an archetype through which to become curious about our own relationship with control and release, resistance and trust, tension and yielding.
What to expect:
- Arrival & Opening the Circle- Grounding and arrival practice to establish the space and open the circle.
- Introducing the Kinky Tarot Circle Intentions- A brief introduction to how we work with tarot: as an archetypal and symbolic language through which we can encounter different aspects of ourselves.
- Meeting the Archetype-Introduction to the tarot card at the centre of the session, exploring its imagery, symbolism, traditional meanings and wider archetypal themes.
- Entering the Archetype- A guided visualisation inviting participants to encounter the card experientially and imaginatively, followed by time for journaling, reflection and optional sharing.
- Embodied Kink Exploration- An embodied, kink-informed practice, exploring the central theme of the session through the body.
- Returning to the Card- Participants return to the original tarot card after the embodied exploration.
- Integration & Closing Circle- Journaling and optional group sharing to integrate the experience, followed by a closing practice to bring the circle to an intentional end.
Meet Molly from Bone & Mirror Tarot
Molly is the founder of Bone & Mirror Tarot, where she explores tarot as a living language of psyche, body and archetype. Currently completing an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology, her work draws on depth psychology, embodiment and the imaginal to move beyond traditional card meanings and into direct experience.
Her workshops invite people to meet the tarot from the inside: through ritual, guided journeying, reflection, conversation and the body. She is particularly interested in the places where spirituality, sexuality, desire and symbol meet, and in what the cards can reveal when we’re willing to get curious about the parts of ourselves we don’t always have language for.
